MAGICIAN research receives Best Paper Award at IHCI 2026

The MAGICIAN project is proud to celebrate an outstanding achievement at the 20th International Conference on Interfaces and Human Computer Interaction (IHCI 2026) in Valencia, Spain. The paper “Design insights on human-centred robotics from the field” was honoured with the Best Paper Award, recognising its valuable contribution to the advancement of human-centred robotics and the understanding of how robotic technologies can be successfully integrated into real-world industrial environments.

he award-winning paper reflects the collaborative efforts of researchers and industry partners across the MAGICIAN consortium. Authored by Dr. Günter Alce, Björn Fischer and Susanne Frennert (Lund University), Fatih Çiftçi (TOFAŞ), Dilek Tükel (Altınay Robot Technologies), and Daniele Fontanelli (University of Trento), the research brings together expertise from academia, technology development, and industrial practice.

The conference brought together researchers, designers, engineers, and human-computer interaction experts from around the world, creating an excellent platform for interdisciplinary exchange. Participants showed particular interest in practical and field-based research on human-centred robotics and the lessons learned from real industrial deployments.

Several key topics throughout the conference:

  • Worker involvement in technology development
  • Safety and ergonomics in human-robot collaboration
  • Integration of robotics into existing production processes
  • Co-design approaches involving operators, developers and managers

Congratulations to all the authors and contributors on this outstanding achievement!
