During the last week of January, MAGICIAN technical partners met in Istanbul and Bursa in the premises of Altinay and Tofas for our 5th Integration Week. In this setting, impressive results were achieved.
ALTINAY Demonstrator successfully tested
During the testing sessions, all components of the MAGICIAN robotic solutions have been assembled and tested: the sensors for visual and tactile defect detection as well as the grinder for defect removal. As a car body traverses along a slider, it stops in predefined zones, in which our Sensing Robot (SR) and Cleaning Robot (CR) operate.
The newly assembled visual sensor delivered impressive first results. During the tests, the system detected surface defects under new conditions compared to previous tests which underlines its robustness and adaptability. The defect can then be projected on the mesh and visualized in the GUI.

Additionally, the system benefits from recordings of real work routines in the factory, helping it to further develop the implementation of expert workers, emphasizing the MAGICIAN Human-centered approach.
The Tactile Defect Detection has also been successfully tested, allowing the data to be recorded and stored offline.
Finally, the Defect Removal component of our system has been tested. The grinder achieved very precise results under different force settings.
Through extensive testing, our training data set has been enhanced in different settings and areas of the car body to collect data.
Looking ahead: What’s next?
In the upcoming weeks, MAGICIAN partners will meet for the next partner meeting to discuss the most recent project updates. Simultaneously, the 6th Integration Week at the premises of Altinay will give the technical partners the opportunity to further test the functioning of our prototypes and enhance and adapt the training data set.
